Reke ‘reggae’ is a cultural keyword of urban Vanuatu. The reke concept relates to age, race, urbanism and transnationalism. With Bislama, reke makes up a powerful code, indexical of a manples ideology. In reggae discourse, we find both ideologies of language, and ideology in language. “Postcolonial Semantics” opens up new aspects for language ideology research.
