SSF TW can treat wastewater with high concentrations of N-NH4+ and recalcitrant OM. In the initial operation adsorption of N-NH4+ has a large contribution in N removal. Denitrification limits N removal at low concentrations of labile OM in wastewater. Co-treatment of the TW effluent with municipal wastewater is possible.
