Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) impact on memory processes in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients is explored.
A randomized, sham-controlled trial using six weeks of CPAP vs sham CPAP was conducted.
Three separate memory systems were evaluated: verbal, procedural, and working memory.
Six weeks of CPAP did not improve the memory processes in OSA patients.
The study findings suggest the existence of a complex OSA–neurocognitive relationship.
