A bifactor model of PTSD and MDD is proposed to explain potential comorbidity. Tested if single factor of PTSD or non-specific general distress more related to MDD. General distress, not PTSD's NACM factor, predicted MDD severity. Relationship between PTSD-MDD likely factor of high distress/negative affectivity.
