p-tert-Butylcalix[4]arene core based ferrocenyl dendrimers: Novel sensor for toxic Hg2+ ion even in presence of Zn2+, Cu2+ and Ag+ ions

The synthesis of ferrocenyl dendrimers 1, 2 and 3 in excellent yield with triazole as bridging and calixarene as core by click chemistry. The synthesized new material is the tethering of electrochemically active ferrocene as surface groups through triazole bridges with calixarene focal point. All the ferrocenyl dendrimers show excellent optical and electrochemical properties. The ferrocenyl dendrimers 1, 2 and 3 selectively sense the highly toxic Hg2+ ions even in the presence of other metal ions, such as Zn2+,Cu2+ and Ag+. The metal ions sensing is revealed by cyclic voltametric studies and Hg2+ sensing is also carried out through NMR titration studies.
