Structural analysis of Zr4+ doped ceria, a possible material for ammonia detection in ppm level

Structural properties were systematically investigated by doping Zr4+ in ceria. Existence of the zirconia phase, beyond 30–40 mol% of Zr4+ in ceria, was observed. Sensor was made with Ce1−xZrxO2 as active electrode & Ni doped LSGM as electrolyte. Electrochemical sensor for NH3 in amperometric mode probably reported first time. Sensor detected efficiently & reproducibly NH3 down to 3 ppm in the range 300–450 °C.
