PIV measurement and CFD simulation of liquid-liquid flow of a settler in rare earths solvent extraction mixer-settler was studied. CFD simulation showed good consistence with experimental data. Preliminary explorations of optimal design with baffles were proposed. Simulations of the residence time distribution were built. Different parameters were exported by CFD to assess the separation performance, such as flow pattern, entrainment, and dispersion band.
