Radiologic data and medical history evaluated for 1131 gastric cancer patients. The incidence of postgastrectomy fracture was 42.1 cases per 1000 person-years. Cumulative incidence was: 9.1% (by year 2), 19.7% (by year 4), 37.3% (by year 6). Old age and smoking status were independent risk factors for postgastrectomy fracture. Detailed surveillance and pharmacological prophylaxis should be considered.
