Synergistic antibacterial effect of Bi2S3 nanospheres combined with ineffective antibiotic gentamicin against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus
Bi2S3 nanospheres with size of 212 nm were prepared by a simple hydrothermal process. Combination of Bi2S3 with gentamicin shows synergistic antibacterial effect. Bi2S3 nanospheres facilitate the entry of gentamicin into cytoplasm. The combination destroys membrane function and induces reactive oxygen generation. The combination presents low cytotoxicity.
