Heating system and thermal behaviour of a typical Roman bath have been analysed. Hypocaust gases ranged from about 90–125 °C to avoid excessive surface temperatures. Windowpanes and concamerationes were necessary to reach appropriate thermal sensation. Temperatures in the caldarium ranged around 30 ÷ 35 °C with a RH of about 60 ÷ 70%.
