An integrated simulation and optimization approach is proposed to reduce CO2 emissions. The construction process is simulated by a discrete-event simulation (DES) platform. The amount of CO2 emissions produced by the construction process is quantified. A genetic algorithm (GA) is employed to optimize on-site labour allocation. A case study in Edmonton, Canada, is used to demonstrate its applicability.
