Effect of smokeless tobacco on oral bacteria was investigated. The smokeless tobacco showed concentration-dependent effects on the growth and viability of the oral bacteria. Snuffs inhibited more bacterial strains than those from snus. The smokeless tobacco might have adverse effects on maintaining a healthy ecological balance of oral bacteria.
