Room Temperature self-healing, and substantial recovery (upto 95% without stimuli after 10 hrs) of gelatin ionogels after a mechanical cut. Reformation of network structures was mediated by charge quenching and hydrophobic interaction (rate of healing ≈ 20 ± 5 mPa/s). Ionogels containing more IL had a lower gel modulus due to propensity of hydrophobic linkages, but were agile enough to recover to higher degree. Being biocompatibile, and biodegradable can be used in biomedical engineering.
