First multilocus phylogenetic investigation of the New World Searobins. Monophyly of Prionotinae is well supported. Bellator renders Prionotus paraphyletic. Prionotus alatus and P. paralatus likely represent a single species. Results support inclusion of Peristediidae within Triglidae.
