Structural and functional diversity of nonapeptide hormones from an evolutionary perspective: A review
详细信息    查看全文
文摘
Oxytocin/vasopressin-related peptides are phylogenetically old and conserved in animals. They are formed as a part of large precursor proteins and show structural diversities. They might have probably originated as neuromodulators. Later on, they acquired predominantly reproductive and osmoregulatory roles. The nonapeptide system remained a major substrate for adaptive forces during evolution.
