Gas holdup estimation in flotation machines using image techniques and superficial gas velocity

An indirect method for gas holdup estimation of flotation machines was proposed.

The JG and the 2D area fraction occupied by bubbles was used in a linear model.

The model showed good prediction capacity in laboratory and industrial scales.

Industrial tests included mechanical cells (8.5–300 m3) and columns (42–160 m3).

The model allowed estimating the εG in the range of 2.5–21.0%.
