TFAM from sea urchin (suTFAM) displays a very short C-terminal tail.
suTFAM distorts DNA at a great extent and recognizes specific DNA with high affinity similarly to the human TFAM.
Mutant versions of TFAM at the putative DNA intercalating and hydrogen bonding residues were produced.
Those residues are responsible for the strong DNA bending and the great DNA binding affinity.
