Thermodynamic behavior of biomass-derived solutes at high dilution in water examined. Furfural, 2-methylfuran, 2,5-dimethylfuran, 3-buten-2-one, and 2-propen-1-ol studied. Air-water partitioning, heat effects and volume changes on dissolution measured. Densities and viscosities of pure compounds also determined. T-dependences of limiting activity coefficients and other properties established.
