Changes of sludge properties in three pilot-scale membrane processes were studied. The destruction from the outer part of sludge to the inner part was observed. The regroupment of sludge and successive increase of finer particle were detected. The decrease of particle size was accompanied by the release of EPS and colloids. The humification degree of SMP could reflect the destruction mechanism of sludge.
