We present new data on the chemical composition of Snow Peak, a moderate size shield volcano in the Cascade forearc.
We revise the age of volcanism from ~ 3 Ma based on older K-Ar ages to between 5.3-6 Ma.
Snow Peak is part of a suite of lavas with low-K tholeiite affinities erupted at this time in the central Oregon Cascades.
Volcanism is likely associated with on-arc extension, and occurred over a distance of ~ 120 km across the arc.
