A nano-scale Nb modulation is created by spinodal decomposition in a Ti-alloy. The Nb modulation stabilizes the bcc β phase against metastable transformations. The bcc β phase is stable in the alloy with a low electron-to-atom ratio of 4.15. The alloy has lower elastic modulus and larger MT strain than the previous alloys. The tuning of spinodal decomposition is a valid strategy to design titanium alloys.
