Different sources of C, N, medium pH and temperature were tested for biodecolorization of alkali lignin. The degree of detoxification (phyto-and ecotoxicity) of alkali lignin in optimized conditions was evaluated. More than 90% of alkali lignin was removed in optimized cultures of microscopic fungi H. haematococca and T. harzianum. Metabolic products of alkali lignin treatment by these fungi are less toxic.
