Long-term satellite rainfall products were evaluated along Chile for use in drought. Satellite products show better results in humid instead arid zones and seasons. Differences were found in the humid South between PERSIANN-CDR and CHIRPS 2.0. RMSE for satellite SPI-derived values for 1, 3 and 6 months were between 0.6 and 1.17. Long-term products are promising for use in drought, climate and hydrologic models.
