Factors promoting family adaptation must be studied together. 31.8% of parents living with an adolescent with CP show clinically significant high stress. Severity of motor impairment and adolescent abnormal behavior have the worst aggravating effect on parental distress. The most protective factors against parental distress are the quality of family functioning and parental positive attitude. Family at high risk of severe distress must be identified early by caregiver.
