The Nile Delta witnessed significant land use/cover change for the last decade. Major changes include the encroachment of urban land upon farmlands. Other changes include drying of coastal lakes and desert reclamation. Land surface temperatures (LST) respond differently for these changes. There is a rise in the LST by at least 1 °C between 2003 and 2014 due to this land use/cover change.
