Cdkl5_1 is the major isoform present in the rat central nervous system. We reveal novel exons, alternative splicing and untranslated regions (UTRs). Cdkl5 transcript isoforms are dynamically regulated across brain regions. A new, standardised nomenclature system is proposed for the rat Cdkl5 gene and transcripts. Results provide a platform to develop molecular therapies in a rat model of CDKL5 deficiency.
