Systematics and biogeography of the Automolus infuscatus complex (Aves; Furnariidae): Cryptic diversity reveals western Amazonia as the origin of a transcontinental radiation
Amazonian species Automolus infuscatus (Furnariidae) was confirmed as paraphyletic. 19 independent evolutionary lineages encountered challenges current taxonomy. Temporal incongruence rejects common vicariant events for co-separated lineages. Ancestral distribution and ecological features may explain diversification history. Plio-Pleistocene western Amazonian origin may relate to terra firme establishment.
