Full-length normalization subtractive hybridization analysis provides new insights into sexual precocity and ovarian development of red swamp crayfish Procambarus clarkii
We identified 16 sequences that are potentially involved in sexual precocity of red swamp crayfish Procamburas clarkii. Of the down-regulated sequences in precocious ovaries, one is ovary-specific C1q-like homologue (PcC1q-like). PcC1q-like was demonstrated by gene knockdown to have an essential role in vitellogenic ovarian development of P. clarkii. This work provides new insights into the molecular mechanisms of sexual precocity and ovarian development in crustaceans.
