The formation of CO is more favorable than that HCOO on Pt4/γ-Al2O3(110), which can be further hydrogenated to form methane.
The metal/γ-Al2O3 surface interface promotes CO2 hydrogenation to form trans-COOH, but hinders the dissociation of cis-COOH.
The interface effects was ascribed to an Pt → C → O → Al electrons transfer channel.
