文摘
The aim of this study was to investigate whether there is a correlation between maternal serum Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW) levels with the presence of preeclampsia and degrees of disease severity.

sSec_2">Methods

sp010">A case-control study was conducted at Clinical Hospital of the Federal University of Uberlândia in the years of 2014 and 2015. The study population consisted of 109 patients with preeclampsia (50 with moderate preeclampsia and 58 with severe preeclampsia), and the control population was 101 pregnant women with no diagnosed diseases. Preeclampsia diagnosis was achieved based on 2002 criteria of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The study was approved by the local ethics committee under the number 820028. The RDW was measured using and automatic blood counter before the parturition.

sp015">We used the Kruskal–Wallis test and logistic regression, adopting p < 0.05.

sSec_3">Results

sp020">The mean of RDW obtained in groups of preecampsia and control were respectively 14.23 ± 1.81 and 14.68 ± 1.64. There was no statistical differences between the means of control RDW vs mild preeclampsia (p = 0.385), control vc severe preeclampsia (p = 0.386), mild preeclampsia vs severe (p = 0.999) and control vs total group of preeclampsia (p = 0.063). When analyzed the logistic regression RDW variable showed no correlation with preeclampsia with p = 0.064, CI between 0.733 and 1.009, with OR = 0.860.

sSec_4">Conclusion

sp025">Red Cell Distribution Width are not associated with the presence or severity of preeclampsia.
