New model accuracy of predicting the critical gas rates was tested with data set comprised of 62 wells, of which 60 are from literature and 2 experimental wells. New model prediction is 15% from actual, a 6% improvement over current horizontal models, and 8–21% over the vertical models. The new model yields best results for gas rates less than 10,000 Mscf/d and for BUR's between 3 and 3030°/100 o ft. In vertical wells, the new model collapses to Coleman model. Conventional vertical models should not be used for horizontal and deviated wells. New model accounts for effects of wellbore geometry on liquid loading and predicts the CR for horizontal and deviated wells.
