AlCrSiON coatings were deposited by arc ion plating in an Ar–N2–O2 mixture atmosphere. The coating shows a special alternate-layered structure and nanograins can be observed. The hardness and residual stress of AlCrSiON coatings decrease as O content increases. Tribological behavior of AlCrSiON coatings were affected by oxygen content and test temperatures.
