Identified a low pathogenic adhesive Streptococcus suis type 5 strain. This type 5 strain provided cross protection to infections by type 2 and 9 strains. Antisera produced by this type 5 strain were cross-reactive to type 2 and 9 strains. Antisera produced by this type 5 strain were opsonic.
