A unified approach for treating linear multibody systems involving flexible beams

The paper demonstrates that the transfer matrix method for multibody systems (MSTMM) can easily handle various coupled problems with beams, dashpots, springs and rigid bodies in a unified way. Within a few lines only, transfer equations can be directly deduced from the system drawing based on the element transfer matrices taken from a MSTMM-library. Eigenvalues of systems involving beams can be computed from exact equations with any desired accuracy by solving a minimization problem. The broad band of applications to a couple of problems taken from literature demonstrates simplicity and high efficiency of modeling with a uniform MSTMM approved over the specific proposals in the literature. The proposal method is easy to formulate, systematic to apply and simple to code.
