Non-selective yeast cells were chosen preliminarily. Experimentally, a pair of efficient mediators yielding a high signal with yeast cells was selected. The biosensor had a high sensitivity, low BOD detection threshold and high stability. BOD biosensor measurements highly correlated (R = 0.9913) with the standard method.
