The effects of pathogenic fungal extracts on ginsenoside production in adventitious roots of Panax quinquefolium L. are investigated.

Nitric oxide and putrescine may be upstream signals to regulate ginsenoside synthesis.

Alternaria panax extract is more suitable than Cylindrocarpon destructans extract for ginsenoside production.

Ginsenoside productivity after 8 d treatment with 4 mg/L A. panax extract is 2.3-fold more than the control.
