Large RWIV was reproduced in an open-jet wind tunnel. The cable vibration and the upper rivulet oscillation were synchronously measured and analyzed. A new excitation mechanism of RWIV was proposed based on the experiments. We found that the asymmetrical attachment of the boundary layer induced by the upper rivulet is the main reason for RWIV. A numerical model was established to verify the proposed mechanism.
