Degradation of ibuprofen by UV/Fe3+/Oxone process is reported.
Ibuprofen degradation rate depends on pH value and the ratio of [Fe3+]:[Oxone]:[IBP].
The anions Cl−, SO42− and H2PO4− caused a negative effect on ibuprofen degradation.
NO3− slightly accelerated ibuprofen degradation.
Six new intermediates/byproducts were identified.
