Traditional and eco-friendly mud-coating technique is at the risk of extinction. Precipitated Fe(II) (e.g., FeS) was the pivotal factor for coating textiles black. Iron solution and ferric (hydr)oxides were unusable for coating textiles black. There were no bacteria in the mud precipitating in the 1-h mud-coating process.
