A new cold adapted strain of Monoraphidium sp. was isolated from Antarctica. The strain is suitable for cultivation at low temperature and light. The strain is well adapted to large scale production in low-temperature environment. Polyunsaturated fatty acids formed more than 60% of the total fatty acids. Production of stearidonic and hexadecatetraenoic acids was more than 50% total oil.
