We cloned cold-adapted luciferases from M. longa with the reaction optimum at ∼5 °C. Cloned cDNAs represent a separate group of paralogous genes for M. longa luciferase. We report luminescent properties for high-purity luciferase produced in insect cells. The extremely psychrophilic isoform reveals high activity and thermostability. Novel isoform is promising luminescent reporter for assays requiring cold conditions.
