A AlTiN coating prepared via splittering arc ion plating (s-AlTiN). The s-AlTiN showed a smooth surface, dense structure and was highly crystalline. The s-AlTiN showed a higher mechanical properties than the coating deposited via conventional arc ion plating. The s-AlTiN can significantly improved the cutting performance of the end mill tools.
