Sedimentary environment and paleosols of middle Miocene fluvial and lacustrine sediments in central Japan: Implications for paleoclimate interpretations
Sedimentary facies analysis and interpretations of paleosols are carried out in the middle Miocene PCF in central Japan. Sedimentary facies indicate that deposition occurred within lacustrine environments. Characteristics of the paleosols show mature soil-forming conditions and are then similar to Ultisols. Periodic construction of a natural dam produced significant paleohydraulic changes. The TPCF might record isolated weathering conditions, such as seasonally heavy rainfall and/or wet climatic conditions.
