Increasing the occlusal vertical dimension (iOVD) by placing composite resin on all maxillary molars is stable in short term. The teenage rat alters deep masseter structure to a slower phenotype earlier and to a greater degree than the young adult rat after iOVD. Young adults require sufficient treatment time and for long-term maintenance of correction after iOVD treatment.
