A new Mg−Mg-bonded compound stabilized by a doubly reduced α-diimine ligand, [K(THF)3]2[LMg−MgL] (L = [(2,6-iPr2C6H3)NC(Me)]22−), has been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and density functional theory analysis. The Mg−Mg bond length is 2.9370(18) Å.
