The in situ preparation of a sulfonium ylide reagent achieved the highly diastereoselective epoxidation of isatins, so that a new and straightforwardaccess to biologically significant spiro-epoxyoxindoles is provided. The first investigations of an asymmetric version are reported with enantiopuresulfides.
