The merits of combining two advanced oxidationprocesses, viz., sonolysis and photocatalysis, have beenevaluated by investigating the degradation of an azo dye, naphthol blue black (NBB), using a high-frequencyultrasonic generator and UV-photolysis. An additiveeffect on the degradation rate of the parent compound isobserved when the sonolysis and photocatalysis experiments were carried out in a simultaneous or sequentialmanner. Sonolysis is effective for inducing faster degradationof the parent dye, while TiO2 photocatalysis is effectivefor promoting mineralization.
