A new series of hydrophilic, lipophilic, and amphiphilic
-phenyl-N-tert-butylnitrone (PBN) derivatives were synthesized toexplore the relationship between their hydrophilic-lipophilic propertiesand antioxidant potency. Very potent protective effects of amphiphiliclactobionamide and tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane PBN derivativeswere observed in mitochondrial preparations, in cell cultures, and inrotifers exposed to unspecific and mitochondria targeted oxidotoxins.
