Communication between Co2(CO)4dppm Units via Polyferrocenylalkyne Linkages

The synthesis and characterization of a family of ethynylbi- and ethynylterferrocenyls,I-Fc2CCR, Fc2CCR, and Fc2(CCR)2 (R = Fc, SiMe3), I-Fc3CCSiMe3, Fc3CCSiMe3,Fc3(CCSiMe3)2, and their Co2(CO)6 and Co2(CO)4dppm complexes are described. Thestructure adopted by Fc2{[Co2(CO)4dppm C2SiMe3]}2 minimizes the steric interactionsbetween the biferrocene and dppm moieties. Electrochemical studies show that identicalredox centers-ferrocenyl termini, Co2(CO)4dppm units, or ferrocenyl groups in the core-communicate independently with each other.
