Addition of the O鈥揌 bonds in water across the aluminum鈥搉itrogen bond of a molecular aluminum鈥揳mido complex affords an alumoxane. The reaction of (PhI2P2鈥?/sup>)AlH (1) with water forms dimeric [(PhHI2P鈥?/sup>)AlH](渭-O) (2) under mild conditions. Upon reaction of 2 with excess water [(PhHI2P鈥?/sup>)Al(OH)](渭-O) (3) is formed with liberation of H2.
